Vermont GMO Food Labeling Legislation

“A bill has recently been introduced in the Vermont state legislature that would require food to be labeled as genetically engineered if it is entirely or partially produced with genetically engineered ingredients.  If passed, the bill, H.722, also known as the ‘VT Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act’, will take effect in 2014.” …

NY Pension Funds Borrowing to Pay Current Liabilities

“And now, their fears are being realized: cities throughout the state, wealthy towns such as Southampton and East Hampton, counties like Nassau and Suffolk, and other public employers like the Westchester Medical Center and the New York Public Library are all managing their rising pension bills by borrowing from the very same $140 billion pension fund to which they owe money.

“Across New York, state and local governments are borrowing $750 million this year to finance their contributions to the state pension system, and are likely to borrow at least $1 billion more over the next year. The number of municipalities and public institutions using this new borrowing mechanism to pay off their annual pension bills has tripled in a year. …

“The state’s borrowing plan allows public employers to reduce their pension contributions in the short term in exchange for higher payments over the long term. Public pension funds around the country assume a certain rate of return every year and, despite the market gains over the last few years, are still straining to make up for steep investment losses incurred in the 2008 financial crisis, requiring governments to contribute more to keep pension systems afloat.” …

Global finance: The Shylock model

The ultimate shell game.  They print money out of nothing and hire politicians to borrow it in the name of a nation.  When it defaults, they get real assets in return.

“For over a quarter century we’ve seen the same show staged again and again with little variation. Greece, Argentina, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, Iceland, Ireland, Russia, Asian Tigers… all “stupidly” borrowed too much from private bankers only to  “discover” they couldn’t pay them back.

“Symmetrically, the same group of powerful global Mega-Banks lent too much to those countries only to “discover” they couldn’t recover those loans.  A Comedy of Errors in which governments and bankers are either very stupid or… are they discretely winking at each other as they carve out pound after pound of flesh?

“Bankers and politicians make strange bedfellows.  Invariably, their Comedies of Errors get their linen soiled.  When that happens, bankers know they cannot go banging on the doors of presidential palaces, ministries of finance and parliaments yelling “Pay up, or else!”

“The farce of “democracy” and “national sovereignty” must be maintained. That’s when banker-controlled “public multilateral agencies” come on stage – IMF, ECB, World Bank – to do the, er… banging!!   After all Greece, you ARE a member of the ECB so you must obey their orders (even if written in German).  And you, Argentina, you ARE a member of the IMF so stop wailing and do your homework!!

“Market Analysts and Rating Agencies are today’s financial witch doctors telling us why stock markets go up and down like a patient’s fever.  Currencies rise, currencies fall in a casino-like roller-coaster; Sovereign Debt Bond Ratings are up-graded or down-graded, all to the tune of the Pied Pipers at S&P, Finch’s and Moody’s, FT and The Wall Street Journal…  And, yes, these oracles of “good” and “bad” are on Mega-banker payrolls.  Whatever they utter is Revealed Truth.  So what if in 2008 they rated AIG, Lehman, Merrill Lynch, Fannie Mae “AA”, even “AAA” until they dissolved into oblivion?

“In perfect sync, they downgrade Greece and Argentina, Spain and Italy, Ireland and Iceland forcing them to pay higher interest to the Mega-bankers” …

Federal Law Forces Medical Experiments on Children

“… Conducting research with children is inherently more difficult, which is why Congress passed two federal laws — the Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act (BPCA), which provides incentives for drug companies to conduct pediatric studies, and the Pediatric Research Equity Act (PREA), which mandates pediatric studies in certain situations. Both laws are up for reauthorization this year. …”

Reading the article between the lines it’s not hard to see how dangerous this trend is, especially given the precedent that parents are being threatened with loss of custody if they refuse the AAP’s ridiculous and unscientific vaccination regimen on american children.  Of course children have long been targeted as cash cows by the medical industrial complex.

AAP Reaffirms Humans Are Mammals

And mammals have breasts for a reason.

“Every infant should begin life with six months of exclusive breastfeeding, followed by another six months or longer with other foods gradually added to the child’s diet, according to an updated policy statement from the American Academy of Pediatrics. …

“Some estimates have suggested that more than 900 infant deaths per year in the United States could be prevented if 90% of mothers breastfeed exclusively for six months, the authors wrote. The effect on infant mortality is one of several positive outcomes linked to breastfeeding:

  • 72% reduction in hospitalization for respiratory infections
  • 64% reduction in the incidence of gastrointestinal infections
  • 58% to 77% reduction in the incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis
  • 36% to 45% reduction in the risk of sudden infant death syndrome
  • 27% to 42% reduction in the incidence of asthma, atopic dermatitis, and eczema
  • 52% reduction in the risk of celiac disease
  • 31% reduction in the risk of inflammatory bowel disease
  • 15% to 30% reduction in the incidence of obesity in adolescences and adulthood
  • 15% to 20% reduction in the risk of childhood leukemia and lymphoma

“The authors cited evidence that breastfeeding improves neurodevelopmental outcomes and facilitates development of host defenses in preterm infants.

“Other studies have linked breastfeeding to improved postpartum blood loss and recovery of the uterus in the mother. Mothers who breastfeed have been reported to have a greater likelihood of return to pre-pregnancy weight and a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and breast and ovarian cancer.

“In addition to reaffirming its support for exclusive breastfeeding, the AAP policy statement included four other recommendations:

  • Adherence to peripartum policies and practices that optimize initiation and maintenance of breastfeeding and that are compatible with those previously set forth by the AAP and the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine Model Hospital Policy
  • Evaluation of every newborn by a pediatrician at three to five days of age (usually 48 to 72 hours after hospital discharge)
  • Mother and infant should sleep near each other to facilitate breastfeeding “

And for those mothers who ignored their bodies and intuitions and dutifully followed the AAP’s old recommendations?  Oops!  Sorry.  But at least we have all these wonderful new treatments, if you have insurance at least.

This would be funny if it wasn’t so tragic.

Note to AAP: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.  Even for money.

Right Wing Activist Dead On Eve of Claimed Obama Expose’

“In a stunning coincidence, It appears Andrew Breitbart suffered his untimely death just hours before he was set to release damning video footage that could have sunk Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign.

“Around three weeks ago on February 9 during the ‘Blog Bash’ event in Washington DC, Breitbart made a prophetic comment that takes on a somewhat chilling nature given the fact that he died in the early hours of March 1st.

“Speaking to Lawrence Sinclair of Sinclair News, Breitbart stated, “Wait til they see what happens March 1st.”

“It’s almost certain that Breitbart was referring to his plan to release damning footage of President Obama that he had been promising to reveal throughout the month of February.

“As we reported yesterday, Breitbart spoke of his intention to release the tape during his CPAC speech last month. The footage shows Obama in his college days appearing alongside former Weather Underground terrorists Bill and Bernardine Dohrn. Observers had speculated that the footage could have derailed Obama’s hopes for a second term.” …

Regardless of how such a video would impact your assessment of Obama (personally it’s not at all clear to me whether the Dhorns are government agents), it’s clear it would have a significant impact on a large voting bloc.

Russia upgrades radar station in Syria to aid Iran

Russia has upgraded a surveillance station it maintains in Syrian territory in order to provide Iranearly warning of an Israeli attack, according to the Israeli security-related blog Debkafile.

“The surveillance station, located south of Damascus, had been able to monitor air traffic in Israel as far south as Tel Aviv, as well as northern Jordan and western Iraq.  Since the upgrade, its range reportedly extends to all parts of Israel and Jordan and as far south as the northern part of Saudi Arabia.

According to the report, Russia has introduced cutting-edge technology to the station and expanded its manpower.  Russia has taken a firm stand against any military attack on Iran or any attempt to force Syrian President Bashar Assad to step down.

“Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said this week that Russia is concerned about the threat of an attack against Iran.

“If it happens, the fallout would be truly catastrophic,” he said, also warning that any outside attempt to displace Mr. Assad would open Syria to “a Libyan scenario.”

“Debkafile said the upgrade of the electronic surveillance station at Jabal Al Harrah was in response to concern expressed by Iran that the station’s resources were being stretched to the limit by providing so much intelligence to the Assad regime in Syria that Tehran no longer could rely on its real-time warnings of an Israeli attack.” …
