GMO Dangers: Facts You Need to Know

By training, I am a plant biologist. In the early 1990s I was busy making genetically modified plants (often called GMOs for Genetically Modified Organisms) as part of the research that led to my PhD. Into these plants we were putting DNA from various foreign organisms, such as viruses and bacteria.

I wasn’t, at the outset, concerned about the possible effects of GM plants on human health or the environment. One reason for this lack of concern was that I was still a very young scientist, feeling my way in the complex world of biology and of scientific research. Another reason was that we hardly imagined that GMOs like ours would be grown or eaten. So far as I was concerned, all GMOs were for research purposes only.

Gradually, however, it became clear that certain companies thought differently. Some of my older colleagues shared their skepticism with me that commercial interests were running far ahead of scientific knowledge. I listened carefully and I didn’t disagree. Today, over twenty years later, GMO crops, especially soybeans, corn, papaya, canola and cotton, are commercially grown in numerous parts of the world.

Depending on which country you live in, GMOs may be unlabeled and therefore unknowingly abundant in your diet. Processed foods are likely to contain ingredients from GMO crops, such as corn and soy. Most crops, however are still non-GMO, including rice, wheat, barley, oats, tomatoes, grapes, beans, etc. For meat eaters the mode of GMO consumption is different. There are no GMO animals used in farming (although GM salmon has been pending FDA approval since 1993); however, animal feed, especially in factory farms, is likely to be mostly GMO corn and GMO soybeans. In this case, the labeling issue and potential impacts are complicated even further.

Similarly deceptive “research” is conducted to ostensibly determine the safety of vaccines:

Problem is, the same “chemical soup” that is suspected to produce problems such as developmental regression, strokes, Guillian-Barre Syndrome, death, etc (adjuvants and preservatives, such as mercury in thimerisol, aluminum, formaldehyde, etc) is injected into both the test group and the control group. In other words, both groups are contaminated by the ingredients in the “chemical soup” and there no longer is a control group. A genuine control group would be injected with distilled water and nothing else.

Real science has already tested each ingredient in the “chemical soup” and each one has been found to be a hazardous substance, dangerous to health and life. Vaccines deliver 200 times the safe level of aluminum to infants by age 18 months – a child whose parents adhere to the recommended vaccine schedule receives 4,925 mcg of aluminum, for instance, while the safe limit is 25 mcg. Therefore, if the offending, debilitating effects of vaccines are due to the repetitious exposure to the “chemical soup”, then both test and control groups are exposed to the “chemical soup” and no fair test of the “chemical soup” has ever been performed – or at least released.

The logic is flawed. The study is not valid. The study appears to be either very poorly designed or may be intentionally “rigged” to mislead parents, doctors, the courts, etc.

Pharmaceutical corporation exemption from liability should be reversed. Companies should be responsible for their products and liable for damages they produce. Otherwise, they run wild.

Most Prestigious Medical Journal in America Calls for GMO Labeling!

A recent article published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) calls on lawmakers to label genetically modified foods.

The authors begin by pointing out the well-established fact that genetic modifications to make plants resistant to herbicides and pesticides have tremendously increased the amount of toxic chemicals dumped on crops. Between 1974 and 2014, glyphosate use alone has increased by a factor of more than 250.

This stands to become much worse. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) decided in 2014 to approve Enlist Duo, a new herbicide made by Dow Chemical that combines glyphosate and 2,4-D. This will lead to substantially more chemicals in our food: according to the EPA’s own projections, 2,4-D use will increase by as much as seven times as a result. The authors point out what many of us have realized for a long time: these are very nasty chemicals. 2,4-D is an ingredient in what used to be called Agent Orange when used in the Vietnam War. The World Health Organization’s ultra-cautious International Agency for Research on Cancer recently classified 2,4-D as a “possible human carcinogen” and glyphosate as a “probable human carcinogen.” Both herbicides were linked to increases in malignant tumors at multiple sites in animals. Glyphosate was also linked to an increased incidence of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in humans.

These new developments cause the authors to conclude, “The time has therefore come to thoroughly reconsider all aspects of the safety of plant biotechnology….We believe the time has come to revisit the United States’ reluctance to label GM foods.”…

Scotland Bans GMO Crops

As expected, the usual cronies in the biotechnology industry are immediately accusing Scotland of being “anti-science”.

This ban follows several other small nations that have banned the use of the herbicide glyphosate following the World Health Organization’s determination that it is a probable cause of cancer.

Glyphosate is what most industrial GMO crops are designed to be soaked with during cultivation.  It is a proven health hazard to humans and the environment.

Cashews Are a Natural Anti-Depressant

There are countless safer, healthier and cheaper natural alternatives to pharmaceutical drugs, but big pharma doesn’t want you to know about them because if we all learned to use food to support genuine health, pharmaceutical companies would be unnecessary.

Aside from the many health benefits they boast which include helping to prevent cancer lower blood pressure and help keep the heart healthy amongst other things but they are also a natural anti depressant.

The Yes Men’s solution to California’s drought: if you eat beef, don’t wash

The campaign highlights one of the main issues surrounding California’s record-breaking drought — one which hasn’t been getting much press: the water-intensive cattle industry. At any one time, there are more than 5 million cattle in California, and they use nearly half of the state’s water supply.

To put that figure into more personal numbers: It takes 2,500 gallons of water to produce just a single pound of beef. A pound of wheat, by comparison, requires only 100 gallons to produce.

Why does Big Food put harmful chemicals in cereal in America but not Europe?


Toxic BHT plagues America’s most popular cereals but is taken out of the same cereals sold to Europeans

One such horrendous chemical plaguing America’s food supply is BHT, or butylated hydroxytoluene. It’s "generally recognized as safe," but research has linked this chemical to the formation of tumors, and in some animal studies BHT interferes with hormones. BHT is considered a "caution" ingredient according to the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI). The Environmental Working Group has sounded the alarm too, categorizing BHT as one of America’s dirty dozen food additives. BHT can be disguised under these synonyms: DBPC, ADVASTAB 401, AGIDOL, AGIDOL 1, ALKOFEN BP, ANTIOXIDANT 29, ANTIOXIDANT 30, ANTIOXIDANT 4, ANTIOXIDANT 4K, ANTIOXIDANT KB and ANTRANCINE 8.

Research shows that BHT is toxic, and companies like Kellogg’s and General Mills know it. That’s why they offer the same cereal products in Europe, but without adding the toxic BHT. America is one of the only countries still embracing this potentially carcinogenic ingredient.

Why are these companies putting American’s health at risk while offering safer versions of the same food in other countries?
