France bans two US pesticides, citing risk to bees

French authorities on Wednesday banned two US pesticides which ecologists deem harmful to bees.

A court in Nice, ruling in a case brought by two ecological associations, banned the products from US group Dow AgroSciences, on the grounds that their containing sulfoxaflor was harmful to bees’ nervous systems.

The court said sulfoxaflor was liable “to present a major risk of toxicity” to pollinators.

The court had already suspended the Transform and Closer brands products from sale in 2017 after they had received initial clearance from the French food and safety agency Anses.

Sulfoxaflor is designed to help protect fruit and vegetables against greenfly but some studies have suggested it can cause harm to bees—whose declining numbers are already a cause of concern in numerous countries—affecting their central nervous systems and disorientating them.

The maker of the products concerned in 2017 rated the sulfoxaflor-containing  as less harmful to biodiversity than a range of other pesticides which European authorities have increasingly restricted over the risk they are feared to pose to bee wellbeing as well as to aquatic life and fish.

Dow AgroSciences is now known as Corteva after Dow Chemical and DuPont merged two years ago.

The Nice court found that measures to reduce any risk to bees by for example not applying the pesticide during the blossoming season were not sufficient to permit its use, citing previous concerns highlighted by EU authorities….

Cargill’s EverSweet GMO Stevia

Despite hundreds of years of safe use of stevia, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has labeled stevia leaf and crude stevia extracts “unsafe food additives,”3 granting GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status to certain high-purity steviol glycosides only.4

In 2007, Hain Celestial Group Inc., maker of Celestial Seasonings herbal teas, received a warning letter from the FDA saying the stevia used in some of their teas may be dangerous to blood sugar and reproductive, cardiovascular and renal systems.5

If this FDA action strikes you as backward, you’re not alone. More often than not, consuming whole plant products will be safer due to synergistic effects than using a single active ingredient by itself. Many suspect the FDA is protecting the sugar and artificial sweetener industries.

As noted by Rob McCaleb, president and founder of the Herb Research Foundation, “Sweetness is big money. Nobody wants to see something cheap and easy to grow on the market competing with the things they worked so hard to get approved.”6

Beware of Cargill’s Genetically Engineered ‘Stevia’

To this day, FDA considers whole stevia unsafe, while genetically engineered (GE) versions of stevia have received the green light for widespread and unregulated use in food. The FDA issued a GRAS No Objection letter for Cargill’s GE stevia product EverSweet in 2016.7

Even more ridiculous, Cargill’s GE stevia is being marketed as “nonartificial.” As reported by the nonprofit watchdog group U.S. Right to Know (USRTK) November 20, 2019:8

“The international food conglomerate Cargill is ramping up commercial-scale production of its genetically engineered sweetener, EverSweet, in a new $50 million production facility that began operating this week in Blair, Nebraska …

Cargill is marketing its new stevia substitute as ‘non-artificial.’ What does that mean? Consumers who click on the link provided in the press release will not get a straight answer.

The web page twists itself into knots trying to describe the new process, which involves genetically engineering yeast to convert sugar molecules into a substance that mimics the taste of stevia, as a ‘centuries old technique’ — without once mentioning genetic engineering or the genetic modified organisms (GMOS) used to make the product.”

In short, Cargill’s “nonartificial stevia” isn’t even derived from actual stevia. It’s a GE-derived synthetic biology product designed to mimic components of the real thing.9 While “inspired” by real stevia, EverSweet’s Reb M and Reb D components are made through GE yeast fermentation. Can it get any more artificial than that? …

Faux Generosity: How Bill Gates Bought His Power and Influence

Last month Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates surpassed Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos to once again become the world’s richest individual, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Buoyed by an enormous 48 percent increase in Microsoft’s share price this year, Gates has retaken the title he last held in 2017.

That outcome is partially owed to the whims of Donald J. Trump. Microsoft recently surprisingly defeated Amazon’s bid for an extremely lucrative $10 billion Pentagon cloud computing contract that sees the company instantly become one of the world’s most important military and security contractors. This decision, Amazon alleges, was due to interference from the president who holds a personal grudge against Bezos, whose Washington Post has maintained a campaign of “resistance” against him.

Gates was also recently in the news attacking the wealth tax that Democratic presidential nomination candidates Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders have proposed. “I’m all for super-progressive tax systems but when you say I should pay $100 billion, then I’m starting to do a little math about what I have left over,” the Seattle native said. (For the record, he would still have over $6 billion).

In response, Warren was apologetic, asking for an opportunity to meet with Gates to explain how much he would pay under the plan. “I promise it’s not $100 billion,” she said. But Sanders has been far more forthright in his opposition to the super-wealthy, categorically stating, “billionaires should not exist.”…

Across the media, Gates is presented as one of the “good billionaires”: a warm-hearted philanthropist dedicated to giving away his entire fortune to needy causes. His charitable organization, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is the largest of its sort in the world, holding over $50 billion in assets. His insight and generosity are constantly emphasized in headlines, as the following examples demonstrate.

“Bill Gates: Philanthropist,” BBC, (2/1/10).

“Why Bill Gates Thinks Ending Polio Is Worth It,” NPR, (5/8/13).

“How Bill Gates aims to Clean Up the Planet,” The Guardian, (2/4/18).

“What Einstein and Bill Gates Teach Us About Time Travel,” NBC News, (5/10/17).

“Bill Gates And Other Billionaires Pledge To Take On Climate Change,” NPR, (11/30/15).

“Bill Gates on ending disease, saving lives: ‘Time is on our side,’” Al-Jazeera, (4/27/19).

“Bill Gates gives $4.6bn to charity in biggest donation since 2000,” The Guardian, (8/15/17).

There are a few problems with that narrative. Firstly, if Gates is so committed to giving his money away, why does he keep getting richer? This is not a trivial question: his net worth has increased from $75 billion in March 2016 to a staggering $106 billion today, according to Forbes Magazine, an over 40 percent increase in three years alone.

Lee Camp, a political comedian who covers topics like rampant inequality on his show, Redacted Tonighttold MintPress News:

It is a sickness of our system that billionaires even exist. The UN estimates it would take 30 billion dollars to end world hunger per year. Gates or Bezos could end world hunger for multiple years. We can’t even comprehend that level of wealth. It’s sociopathic. So I’m not saying Gates doesn’t do good things sometimes, but he should not be viewed as a hero. All billionaires should be viewed as sick in the head. They need mental health professionals to work on them before it’s too late for humankind.”

Linsey McGoey, Professor of Sociology at the University of Essex, UK, and author of No Such Thing as a Free Gift: The Gates Foundation and the Price of Philanthropyis profoundly skeptical of philanthropy as a whole, claiming it can actually sometimes harm democracy in the long run: “Philanthropy can and is being used deliberately to divert attention away from different forms of economic exploitation that underpin global inequality today” she told MintPress News…

DECEMBER 8TH, LITTLE KNOWN SATANIC RITUAL DATE, DEMOCRATS ATTACK PRESIDENT TRUMP & 39 YEARS AGO JOHN LENNON EXECUTED

December 8th is a little known Satanic Ritual date. Satanists sometimes mock Christianity by performing satanic occult rituals on Christian holidays with the hope of desecrating that day. December 8th is a Christian day to honor the immaculate conception of Mary, Mother of Jesus. Satanists have used that day to attack people known to get in the way of their plans.

I remember in December of 1980 when I heard of the murder of John Lennon by Mark Chapman. I later heard that on that night that Mark had prayed to the devil to give him strength to go through with this. Back In those days I still had contact with a husband and wife team of therapists known as the Fabians. They had been involved with the CIA’s MK Ultra program, had become disillusioned with it, and they had started to help people like me who had been the victims of MK Ultra and other trauma-based mind control techniques. I had been in therapy with the Fabians off and on for about ten years at that point. A few weeks after the death of Lennon, I met with the Fabians for routine therapy and I mentioned that I had felt sad when I heard of Lennon’s death. They looked at each other, then finally decided to tell me what they knew about this.

They explained that they still had some contact and communication with people in the intelligence community, and they had heard something. They told me that some people in military intelligence had decided that John Lennon was a threat to their plans for unending war because of Lennon’s peace activism. So some members of military intelligence had used MK Ultra mind control methods on Chapman to program him to kill Lennon. (I doubt Chapman knows this was done to him.)

Lennon’s death was actually a satanic human sacrifice ritual. December 8th was chosen as the date for this in order to mock Christianity; it doesn’t matter if Lennon himself was a Christian because mocking Christianity is merely a satanic technique for increasing occult power.

So now, 39 years later, the satanists in the leadership of the Democratic party want to get rid of Trump. And Trump has actually spoken out against the unending cycle of war that our country has been trapped in. So the Democrats are hoping to politically assassinate Trump. Next Monday, December 9th, the Democrats plan to hold a hearing to politically attack Trump. This is an absurd situation because you have people guilty of treason, corruption and every depraved crime imaginable accusing Trump of having said something inappropriate during a phone call.

I’m writing this on December 7th. If they follow their standard operating procedures for satanic occultism, I think that it’s predictable that tomorrow, December 8th, satanists connected with the Democrat Party leadership are going to perform a satanic ritual sacrifice to give them the occult power to successfully attack President Trump politically. I have a strong intuitive sense for how these satanic occultists work, and I feel strongly that the satanists in Washington DC are going to perform a human sacrifice tomorrow.

This may be done in private somewhere or they may program some mind control victim to publicly kill somebody they don’t like. It makes me feel sad that some innocent person is going to be killed in this way. I’ve prayed that, if it is his will, God Almighty will intervene and stop this human sacrifice somehow. And I’ve prayed that President Trump will receive spiritual protection from the Holy Spirit and God’s loyal angels. In prayer I’ve asked that Mary, Mother of Jesus, intercede to ask for Christ’s help in these matters. If you are a believer, this would be a good time to say some prayers.

The One Straw Revolution by Masanobu Fukuoka

“An understanding of nature
lies beyond the reach
of human intelligence.”

I was exposed to Fukuoka’s One Straw Revolution book over 30 years ago. Here is a list of his books, in English and in several other languages: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=masanobu+fukuoka

Fukuoka was a botanist, a plant pathologist, in Japan. He kept removing unnecessary steps from the “new, improved, scientific” agricultural process until he – like Ruth Stout – grew extraordinary crops in improved soil. His garden, like hers, grew more and better than sophisticated modern methods allow. Both Ruth and Fukuoka used a lot of straw.

Four Principles of Natural Farming
1. No cultivation
2. No chemical fertilizer or prepared compost
3. No weeding by tillage or herbicides
4. No dependence on chemicals

“Do-nothing farming.” No insecticides. No pesticides. No weed-killers. No poisons. No time-wasters. No energy-suckers. Simply growing healthy food in healthy soil. Food forests. Animals and bugs don’t need that much to survive, anyway, so plant extra for them and let them munch. A rich soil produces vigorous plants that can take care of themselves. Visit a forest or a woody area that has not been touched by human hands. It’s lush and vibrant.

Perhaps Fukuoka learned to be lazy and successful from Ruth Stout? Or she from him? Or maybe the mid 70s was simply a time to remind the human race how to garden and farm simply – in harmony with nature?

“Let food be your medicine
and medicine your food.”

Ruth Stout’s Garden – ANYONE can grow food

If you’ve never heard of Ruth Stout before, you are in for a treat. Ruth wrote a garden column for a NY newspaper for many years. Her sense of humor is delightful. Here is a list of her helpful, encouraging books: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=ruth+stout

Listening to Ruth tell her story, she must be around 95 years old in this video. She talks about her 16th year. Carrie Nation came to her town in Kansas to speak. Ruth was in the audience and after the talk, Carrie was arrested for using a hatchet to break the window of a pharmacy that was selling alcohol illegally Stout was not; she had to go to Sunday school

Straw works as an in-place compost and mulch to keep the warmth and moisture in the rich soil. I used her trick to mulch the cilantro in my raised bed and – miraculously – it is flourishing happily, even after some nights with freezing temperatures. I thought cilantro would give up the ghost in cold weather, but I guess not.
