The Latest Plot to Topple Trump: Politics According to (Groucho) Marx

The US political, intelligence and media establishments have made even greater asses of themselves before the entire world by cooking up their latest wild concoction of a plot to topple President Donald Trump and – while they’re at it – knock his most plausible challenger former Vice President Joe Biden out of the race as well.

Washington has become a buffoonish theater of the absurd. It is politics according to Marx: But not Karl Marx. The latest scandal is pure Groucho Marx. It is straight out of the Marx Brothers 1933 comic movie masterpiece “Duck Soup.”

Freedonia is a chaotic joke of a nation that has just gone bankrupt. This of course fits modern America perfectly. The country’s financial benefactor Mrs. Teasdale (obviously a stand in for the International Monetary Fund which had not been created yet) then insists that her favorite, the wild and ludicrous Rufus T. Firefly, a con man with no dignity whatsoever but a surprising amount of wit and street smarts becomes its president.

However, Firefly – a natural stand in for President Donald Trump – must then survive one sinister scheme to topple him from power after another. All of them ineptly executed.

Russiagate was such a scheme. A big lie of such staggering inherit absurdity lacking any hard evidence whatsoever that a six year old child with Downs’ Syndrome would not have been believed it. But around half the adult population of the United States apparently did.

Now, within weeks, hardly even days after absurd and now half-senile Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller (a perfect foil for the Marx Brothers to be played by any comic actor specializing in befuddlement) bit the dust in his own ludicrous congressional testimony, a new Outrageous Accusation has been thrown at Trump, even more non-existent than the previous one.

Right after being falsely accused of conspiring with Russia for the past two and a half years, Trump is suddenly accused of the opposite – of conspiring with Ukraine instead!

This Reversal of Fortune – and of accusations – demands that the American public be as stupid and brainwashed as the oppressed population of Oceania in George Orwell’s dark and prophetic classic dystopia “1984.”

“We are at War with Eurasia! We have always been at War with Eurasia!”

“No! We LOVE Eurasia! We are at War with EASTAsia! We have always been at war with Eastasia!”

Clearly, the readers and viewers of the New York Times, the Washington Post, MSNBC, CNN and all the rest of America’s media “Powers That Be” have already been well trained in Orwellian Doublethink and witless stupidity….

Engdahl: Climate and the Money Trail

Climate. Now who wudda thought. The very mega-corporations and mega-billionaires behind the globalization of the world economy over recent decades, whose pursuit of shareholder value and cost reduction who have wreaked so much damage to our environment both in the industrial world and in the under-developed economies of Africa, Asia, Latin America, are the leading backers of the “grass roots” decarbonization movement from Sweden to Germany to the USA and beyond. Is it pangs of guilty conscience, or could it be a deeper agenda of the financialization of the very air we breathe and more?

Whatever one may believe about the dangers of CO2 and risks of global warming creating a global catastrophe of 1.5 to 2 degree Celsius average temperature rise in the next roughly 12 years, it is worth noting who is promoting the current flood of propaganda and climate activism.

Green Finance

Several years before Al Gore and others decided to use a young Swedish school girl to be the poster child for climate action urgency, or in the USA the call of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for a complete reorganization of the economy around a Green New Deal, the giants of finance began devising schemes for steering hundreds of billions of future funds to investments in often worthless “climate” companies.

More Confirmation of an Epstein-Maxwell Blackmail Operation

One may wonder what happened to the Epstein story. Jeffrey Epstein “committed suicide” six weeks ago and since that time the story has all but disappeared from the corporate media news cycle, as I said it would. AG Barr said he was told it was an intelligence operation, so naturally it must disappear, buried under stories of far lesser importance.

On September 26, Zev Shalev, a three-time Emmy nominee and Murrow Award recipient investigative journalist who once worked for corporate media propaganda megalith CBS, posted “Blackmail America” at Narativ.

An ex-Israeli intelligence agent reveals Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell were not only Israeli intelligence assets, they were allegedly entrapping U.S. politicians with minors. The sexual victims have come forward, but why have none of the blackmail targets?

The US government, known for its serial dishonesty, lies, and propaganda, has promised to root out and prosecute all the folks involved in Epstein’s child rape factory. “Let me assure you this case will continue on against anyone who was complicit with Epstein. Any co-conspirators should not rest easy,” declared AG William Barr.

It’s not likely, however, that we will get the bottom of this case any time soon, if ever.

Socialism: For Your Benefit – or Theirs?

Many of the world’s richest people — people whom most socialists would certainly consider vulture capitalists and wealth-gorging criminals who smother the world’s poor — are some of the greatest supporters of not only American national socialism, but global socialism. The many left-wing groups in this country — Change.org, Planned Parenthood, Black Lives Matter, MoveOn.org, ACLU, etc. — would barely exist except for the billions of dollars they have received from foundations with names like Rockefeller, Ford, Carnegie, and Gates, and individual billionaires with names like Rockefeller, Soros, Steyer, Bloomberg, and Sandler.

Following his visit to Communist China in 1973, David Rockefeller, then the most famous banker in the world, wrote, “One is impressed immediately by the sense of national harmony,” and “there is very real and pervasive dedication to Chairman Mao and Maoist principles.” He went on to make the astounding claim that “the social experiment in China under Chairman Mao’s leadership is one of the most important and successful in human history.” Keep in mind, he made this visit and this statement during the height of China’s violent Cultural Revolution, when Mao’s Red Guards were murdering, torturing, and terrorizing the people of China.

Rockefeller, known as “Mr. Globalist,” was chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Trilateral Commission and a top leader of the uber-elite Bilderberg Group. He and his fellow globalists have consistently promoted the centralization and concentration of political and economic power at home and abroad, and have assisted many Marxist dictatorships in oppressing their peoples. The billionaire globalists of Wall Street behemoths such as Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Citibank, and Big Tech giants such as Apple, Microsoft, and Google love Communist China and other socialist regimes around the world. For one thing, they love having market share given to them by government, rather than having to compete in a free market against other established corporations and upstart entrepreneurs. They believe their wealth and position will guarantee them a permanent, privileged rank among the ruling elite.

The globalists and the communists/socialists are all pursuing the same thing: power, wealth, and control. And they work together to centralize power and remove all checks and balances that hinder the exercise of that power. However, they know that an open appeal for power (“Give me power over every aspect of your life”) is a total non-starter — even “progressives” would balk at it. No, the socialist appeal for power must always be camouflaged under proposals for “helping,” “saving,” and “reforming.” As in “helping” the children, the elderly, the homeless, and the poor, or “saving” the environment, or “reforming” education, the criminal justice system, etc…

Edward Snowden’s Julian Assange is an Unfamiliar Julian Assange

There is an unquestionable contradiction between Snowden’s opposition to Assange’s arrest and the rhetorical games he plays with Assange’s character in his memoir, Permanent Record.

NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden and WikiLeaks’ former editor Julian Assange have a complicated relationship. On the one hand, they share important similarities: both are perceived as dangerous enemies by the United States government, and both have been documentary subjects of filmmaker Laura Poitras. On the other hand, they clearly disagree when it comes to the means of achieving government transparency and accountability. After all, if Snowden had agreed with Assange about publishing practices, it is likely that he would have followed Chelsea Manning’s example and sent the NSA documents he collected and disclosed in 2013 to WikiLeaks.

The recent publication of Permanent Record, Snowden’s 336-page memoir, takes the Snowden-Assange dynamic to new—and problematic—heights. When Assange was forcibly dragged out of the Ecuadorian embassy in early 2019, Snowden was among the leading voices condemning the arrest of the WikiLeaks founder, calling it a dangerous assault on journalism. But in his memoir, Snowden uses rhetorical tricks to present Assange and WikiLeaks as his deceitful and irresponsible foils in a blatant and seemingly self-serving effort to highlight his own trustworthiness and accountability. Indeed, reviewers at the Washington Post and New Yorker have already seized upon Snowden’s anti-Assange rhetoric to serve their own anti-Assange agendas.

Proponents of press freedom have become accustomed to Pentagon and national security state attacks on Assange, but Snowden’s puzzling claims about the white-haired Australian and his transparency organization are exceptionally dangerous because they come from an otherwise highly respectable and trustworthy source, and at a time when there is otherwise a virtual media blackout on WikiLeaks. To be sure, Snowden deserves recognition as a courageous whistleblower and as a global champion of privacy rights, but in Permanent Record, Snowden appears willing to use a political prisoner for personal gain, deliberately distorting the truth and perpetuating the imperialistic propaganda that threatens not only Assange’s health but also his very life—just like the corporate media and national security state he exposed in 2013.

Snowden first distinguishes himself from Assange in a discussion of hacker handles, or online pseudonyms used by hackers so that they can conduct their online affairs without detection by authorities. When Snowden first made contact with the journalists Glenn Greenwald and Laura Poitras, he used a series of disposable handles, such as “Cincinnatus” and “Citizenfour,” so that he could hide his true identity until he was confident that he could trust them with his cache of classified NSA documents.  “The final name I chose for my correspondence,” Snowden explains, “was ‘Verax,’ Latin for ‘speaker of truth,’ in the hopes of proposing an alternative to the model of a hacker called ‘Mendax’ (‘speaker of lies’)—the pseudonym of the young man who’d grow up to become WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange.”

Snowden’s play on Assange’s youthful handle implies not only that Assange is deceitful but also that Assange intends to be deceitful. This insinuation is curious, given that WikiLeaks’ has published over 10 million documents, all of which have been authenticated. Nevertheless, Snowden’s remark is, ironically, not meant to be truthful; instead, it is meant to establish a rhetorical heuristic between Snowden-as-trustworthy and Assange-as-untrustworthy. …

Disaster Capitalism and Social Engineering in Sweden

  • From the beginning of 2019 to the end of July, there were 120 bombings in Sweden, according to police statistics.
  • In Uppsala alone, a picturesque Swedish university town, where 80% of girls do not feel safe in the city center, four rapes or attempted rapes took place in early August within four days.
  • “Stop the rapes – you are letting the women down…. That women do not have the same opportunity to move freely in the streets and squares without having to worry about being exposed to crime, is a serious restriction on women’s freedom and self-determination”. — Josefin Malmqvist, member of parliament for the Moderate Party; Aftonbladet, August 24, 2019.
In the southern Swedish city of Landskrona — a place of roughly 35,000 inhabitants — since December 2018, there have been seven explosions or bombings. In August, the entrance to Landskrona’s city hall (pictured) was blown up. (Image source: Mrkommun/Wikimedia Commons)

“Löfven, you have lost control of Sweden,” the leader of the largest opposition party, the center-right Moderate Party, Ulf Kristersson, recently wrote in an article in the daily newspaper Aftonbladet, in which he criticized Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven for failing to solve some of Sweden’s biggest problems. According to Kristersson:

“Two areas that we [the Moderate Party] highly prioritize are law and order and integration. Because Sweden’s biggest problems are there now.

“Last year, 306 shootings occurred and 45 people were shot dead. According to the police, the number of people killed has doubled since 2014. During the same period, the number of people who have been subjected to sexual abuse has tripled according to BRÅ [the Swedish Crime Prevention Council]…

“Concrete reforms are necessary. We have proposed them – the Social Democrats say no…

At the same time, we have an integration crisis: More than half of all the unemployed are born outside of Sweden. In our exclusion areas, [utanförskapsområden] there are schools where not even half of the students pass all subjects… Many children born in Sweden hardly speak Swedish, and there is extensive repression [in the name of] honor culture. Here too we have called for reforms, but the Social Democrats say no….

These policies are not indicative of a desire for a sustainable society.   Either the social democrats are idiots or they are being paid or controlled by a 3rd party to act like idiots.   Or both.

Today’s obesity epidemic may have been caused by childhood sugar intake decades ago

Current obesity rates in adults in the United States could be the result of dietary changes that took place decades ago, according to a new study published by researchers at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

“While most public health studies focus on current behaviors and diets, we took a novel approach and looked at how the diets we consumed in our childhood affect obesity levels now that we are adults,” said Alex Bentley, head of UT’s Department of Anthropology and lead researcher of the study, which was published in Economics and Human Biology.

Consumption of excess sugar, particularly in sugar-sweetened beverages, is a known contributor to both childhood and adult obesity. Many population health studies have identified sugar as a major factor in the obesity epidemic. One problem with this theory, however, has been that sugar consumption in the US began to decline in the late 1990s while obesity rates continued to rise well into the 2010s.

That increase shows in the numbers: By 2016, nearly 40 percent of all adults in the US — a little over 93 million people — were affected by obesity. In Tennessee alone, the adult obesity rate more than tripled, from about 11 percent in 1990 to almost 35 percent in 2016. By 2017, however, obesity in Tennessee had fallen 2 percent from the previous year.

If high-sugar diets in childhood have long-lasting effects, the changes we see now in adult obesity rates may have started with diets decades ago, when those adults were children.

Since the 1970s, many available infant foods have been extremely high in sugar,” said Hillary Fouts, coauthor of the study and cultural anthropologist and professor in the UT Department of Child and Family Studies. “Other independent studies in medicine and nutrition have suggested that sugar consumption during pregnancy can cause an increase in fat cells in children,” she added.

“Up to this point, no studies had explicitly explored the temporal delay between increased sugar consumption and rising obesity rates,” says Damian Ruck, postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Anthropology and coauthor of the study. To address the problem, the authors modeled the increase in US adult obesity since the 1990s as a legacy of the increased excess sugar consumption measured among children in the 1970s and 1980s.

The researchers tested their model using national obesity data collected between 2004 and 1990 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. They compared those obesity rates with annual sugar consumption since 1970 using the median per capita rates issued by the US Department of Agriculture.

The model also roughly captures how obesity rates vary by age group among children and teenagers.

“Our results suggest that the dietary habits learned by children 30 or 40 years ago could explain the adult obesity crisis that emerged years later,” said Ruck.

A large portion of the sugar increase before 2000 was from high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), which after 1970 quickly become the main sweetener in soft drinks and a common ingredient in processed foods. At peak sugar consumption, in 1999, each person in the US consumed on average around 60 pounds of HFCS per year and more than 400 calories per day in total excess sugars.

US sugar consumption has declined since 2000. “If 2016 turns out to be the peak in the obesity rate,” Bentley added, “that is coincidentally one generation after the peak in excess sugar consumption.”

The researchers are planning to continue their studies in the area by exploring the effect of sugar-sweetened beverages. “This is important because obesity disproportionately affects the poor,” said Bentley.

In a paper published in Palgrave Communications in 2018, Bentley and his colleagues found that the relationship between low income and high rates of obesity became noticeable on a national scale in the early 1990s. The 2018 study shows that the correlation between household income and obesity rate has grown steadily, from virtually no correlation in 1990 to a very strong correlation by 2016.
