This is a matter of cultural clash. The culture that considers itself to be the “bonobo” of humans is trying to impose its philosophy on those whose ideals are opposite theirs. They think we are insanely prudish and we think they are criminally psychopathic. They are trying to make a country that is predominantly Christian into their own ideal, image and likeness. See references to Baal, Sodom and Gomorrah, etc in the bible.
It’s not that God is opposed to drugs, sex, rock’n’roll, but when we become attached to this world and its temporary, fleeting, fickle “pleasures” we also fall into its mire and muck and are vulnerable to disappointment because those “pleasures” had a beginning, will have an end, are temporary and will ultimately fail us.
Within us is a natural longing for the highest high, the true pleasure, the pleasure that will never leave us. Looking to things of this world for “pleasure”, we become distracted from our true, divine nature and find it difficult to connect with it. Nothing here can compare to the beauty of what is already within us – and by turning our awareness away from the needy, greedy hungers of the body, we are able to connect with the Love we long for, here and now – while we are on the planet, still in bodies. We need not wait for the afterlife to experience the real pleasure, joy, bliss.
The teaching that we need to wait for death to “know God” is the ultimate in spiritual abuse. Jesus said “You will KNOW the Truth and the Truth will make you FREE.” Being dependent on this world for our pleasure, value and worth is slavery. Knowing the Truth, the true pleasure that is always there, within us, frees us from our dependency on externals. It is the highest high. It satisfies all longings, contents us, and is always with us… fulfills every desire… Turning within, we no longer have to beg for love, real pleasure and happiness from people, places, things, situations, etc – because real Love comes built in, as standard operating equipment within every human being.
“Why wait for heaven? It is here today.”
“Seek and you will find… Ask and you will receive…”
