The State of the Media

Who Owns the Media?

Massive corporations dominate the U.S. media landscape. Through a history of mergers and acquisitions, these companies have concentrated their control over what we see, hear and read.

It’s not just that these media companies are huge, it’s that they often have interests beyond media.   GE, for instance, is unlikely to be a reliable source of information about issues relating to its other businesses: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_assets_owned_by_General_Electric

As corporate power concentrates, such conflicts of interest will become even more pervasive.
