Orwellian Irony: People Who Distrust the State Said to be “Faith Based”

I know I shouldn’t be bothering with old propaganda given the current onslaught, but it’s still good for a laugh.   The article is “Americans Have Little Faith In Scientists, Science Journalists: Poll” at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/12/21/faith-in-scientists_n_4481487.html?utm_hp_ref=tw

Predictably, the author makes no distinction between “tobacco science” which is so pervasive today, and real science.  Her litmus test for scientific literacy seems to be whether one believes what one is told by the “authorities”, and she laments the breakdown of public trust in them.     But the truth is that the widespread acceptance of the 9/11 hoax is the most depressing illustration of the scientific illiteracy of the american people and the willingness of the “authorities” to lie to their faces.   The top rated reader comment is positively orwellian:

The people that trust in science are the educated people. The less educated are usually the faith based class. The numbers really don’t shock me at all. It takes a well educated mind to understand what really happens in our universe, not a imaginary man floating in the clouds.

The writer’s indoctrination and faith in the religion of statism is unshakable and positively touching.   Why can’t we all just believe whatever we’re told?  Isn’t there safety in numbers?  Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

How do you even begin to get through to such people?   This is mind control.
