For hundreds of years, hemp and cannabis were two of the most useful crops in the world. The early US government required farmers to use some of their land to grow hemp. Then, in the 1930s, cannabis, as well as hemp, were outlawed. Read this excellent article on how that came about… Why is Marijuana Illegal? In short, the answer is that hemp and cannabis were made illegal due to some slimy footwork, very unethical advertising and public relations work, a smear and fear campaign.
The tragedy of this story is that for thousands of years, cannabis was in every healer’s pharmacopeia and its healing effects were appreciated by the public. Then it was given “bad press” and forbidden for over a century, thanks to the efforts of a few plutocrats. “Big boys” in the steel, paper, food, medicine and drug businesses saw hemp and cannabis as market share competitors. Corporations then profited mightily from its illegality, including the medical industry. We now know that cannabis heals cancer. Yet due to the fancy footwork of a few selfish men, millions upon millions have died of cancer… my own mother among them.
Hemp is a wonderful building material, rivaling concrete and steel. From hemp come paper and fabrics that are strong, enduring, and of very high quality.
Cannabis is a nutrient-rich plant that provides what the body needs to be radiantly healthy. It digs its roots deep into the ground to bring up those minerals usually not found in most foods in the grocery stores. Its seeds can be made into hemp seed butter, hemp oil is a nutritious, healing oil. The leaves of the cannabis plant can be juiced and its juice has blessed those who drink it with health, after long years of sickness and suffering. Cannabis has a pleasant effect on the body and the mind. Ingesting a little allows one to breathe, let go of fear, and begin the healing process, when dis-ease is caused by stress and tension.
What did corporations do to replace hemp and cannabis? They have denuded the forests, harvesting stately, slow-growing trees, when hemp could have served the same purposes. They have dug unnecessarily into pristine mountains to mine metals, when the hemp fiber could have been used instead, saving our air, water and ground from the toxic effects of smelting plants. The medical industry substituted thousands of pharmaceutical drugs that require long lists of known side-effects and even black box warnings due to the high level of toxicity, for the simple, beneficial, healing properties of cannabis.

A refreshing reframing of cannabis and hemp from “The Marijuana Conspiracy – THE REAL REASON HEMP IS ILLEGAL” by Doug Yurchey:
Marijuana does NOT pose a threat to the general public. Marijuana is very much a danger to the oil companies, alcohol, tobacco industries and a large number of chemical corporations. Various big businesses, with plenty of dollars and influence, have suppressed the truth from the people.
The truth is if marijuana was utilized for its vast array of commercial products, it would create an industrial atomic bomb! Entrepreneurs have not been educated on the product potential of pot. The super rich have conspired to spread misinformation about an extremely versatile plant that, if used properly, would ruin their companies.
Arguments against hemp and cannabis included 1) pacifism and 2) increased violence among users – which is it, folks? My guess is, the opponents said anything that would touch a nerve and turn the public against it. This was the era of Eddie Bernays, “father of public relations” and his tricks. Yellow journalism built a case against “marijuana”, movies were made.
Learn about the practical benefits of using hemp rather than other materials for paper, cloth, automobile bodies, building materials, and so on, at Hemp Facts. Rival industries that wanted to eradicate hemp competition are in (parenthesis), below:
Hemp makes excellent quality paper and grows much more quickly than trees. It is truly a renewable resource. (Hearst paper)
Hemp makes cloth that rivals fine cotton, silk and rayon. (DuPont nylon)
Hemp makes a stronger car body than steel and is an excellent building material for home construction. (Carnegie steel)
Cannabis has been an important medicine for millennia, superior to any expensive pharmaceutical drugs on the market, for it supports the immune system rather than attacking bugs. Once the body receives what it needs to be strong, it can take care of bugs and other conditions. Honest members of the American Medical Association (AMA) were opposed to outlawing cannabis. (Rockefeller oil/medicine)
Cannabis is a kinder, gentler, higher quality, less destructive mind-altering substance than psych meds, street drugs and alcohol. (Rockefeller oil/medicine)
Hemp seeds made into a paste is as delicious or more delicious than sesame tahini or peanut butter. Juiced, it has been effective against ailments that no modern pharmaceutical could cure.
Hemp is an incredibly profitable crop for farmers, because of its versatility and practicality.
The outlawing of cannabis for all these years is just one blatant example of how we have been misled, manipulated and railroaded by the “elite”, the plutocrats, who have served their own interests at the expense of the public.
How many lives have been lost by not having effective medicine? How many lives have been ruined by being legally persecuted and punished for using cannabis rather than narcotics and alcohol? How many are still in jail due to laws that serve the vested interests?
